Young Stallion’s Second Crop Begin Careers with Impressive Results

The Plains, Virginia — October 8, 2014 — Hickory Tree Farm, a full-scale Thoroughbred breeding, training and racing facility, continues to watch the successes of Rebellion (GB)’s first and second crops across racecourses throughout North America. Rebellion (GB), now standing at Hickory Tree Farm’s Middleburg facility, is a Darley-bred stallion sired by Danehill’s champion son Mozart and out of the Group 2 winning Lahib mare Last Resort. Rebellion (GB) is the leading earner and one of four graded stakes winners from Mozart's single crop of foals. Currently ranked #2 in the Mid-Atlantic among second-crop sires, Rebellion (GB) has begun his career with distinction, with 10 winners of 20 races, including 1 stakes win, from just 16 runners to date. His progeny continue to win on a variety of track surfaces and distances. Rebellion (GB)’s first stakes winner, Bella’s Rebel (Rebellion (GB)   — Marina Bella), currently leads his second crop with 4 wins and $128,453 USD in earnings.

On September 14 at Woodbine, the 3 year-old gelding Rebellion on Tap (Rebellion (GB)   — Tapping N Turning), topped Race 1 (ALW), with another Rebellion (GB) gelding, Butilovesyababe (Rebellion (GB)   — Loose Talk), placing third in the same race. On the same day, Rebellious Diana (Rebellion (GB)   — Damiana), owned by Diana Jensen and bred at Hickory Tree Farm, was victorious in another allowance race at Zia Park.

The following week at Woodbine, two fillies by Rebellion (GB), both bred and raised together at Hickory Tree Farm, Rebel Lioness (Rebellion (GB)   — Ecouter) and Rebellious Love (Rebellion (GB) – Sugar Plum Girl), placed 2nd and 5th respectively in Race 7 (ALW).

As a result of his progeny’s outstanding performance, Rebellion (GB) is the leading sire in Virginia and is now ranked 25th among second-crop sires in North America.

“As we had hoped, Rebellion (GB)’s progeny have had a wonderful year,” said Jim Treptow, owner of Hickory Tree Farm and Hickory Tree Racing. “They are displaying talent on all racing surfaces, along with tremendous heart and determination, just as Rebellion (GB) did throughout his racing career. We are thrilled to bring him back to Virginia to stand in 2015.”

Trained in the U.S. by Graham Motion, Rebellion (GB) won 7 races and $816,277, retiring sound after racing on turf, synthetic and dirt at distances from 5-1/2 furlongs to one mile. Rebellion (GB) originally stood at Norse Ridge Farm in Canada for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 breeding seasons and has produced 42 foals to date.

"As we continue to build momentum in our breeding program based here in Virginia, we are delighted to see the Rebellion (GB) bloodline showing such strength,” said Cheris Treptow, Farm Manager of Hickory Tree Farm. “From the start, I wanted to make him our anchor stallion in the Hickory Tree Farm Breeding Program, and these results are a testament to his potential. We look forward to breeding more of our own mares to him next year as we have had great success with the mares we have bred to him in the past."

Rebellion (GB) will stand for $3,500 in the 2015 breeding season. For more information, contact Cheris Treptow at (571) 442-7728, or visit
