HICKORY TREE FARM TO STAND DARLEY-BRED REBELLION (GB) IN VIRGINIA
Stallion Defines a New Legacy for the Future of Virginia Thoroughbred Bloodlines
#2 Ranked Mid-Atlantic Second Crop Sire
The Plains, Virginia — September 16, 2014 — Hickory Tree Farm, a full-scale thoroughbred breeding, training and racing facility, announced the addition of multiple graded stakes winner Rebellion (GB) to its stallion roster for the 2015 season. Rebellion (GB), a Darley-bred stallion sired by Danehill’s champion son Mozart and out of the Group 2 winning Lahib mare Last Resort, is the leading earner and one of four graded stakes winners from Mozart's single crop of foals. An outstanding individual, Rebellion (GB) won 7 races and $816,277, retiring sound after racing on turf, synthetic and dirt at distances from 5-1/2 furlongs to one mile.
Early in his career, Rebellion (GB) competed in the best of company, winning or placing in 7 of his 8 starts in England. In 2007, he was purchased by Jim Treptow's Virginia-based Hickory Tree Stables and moved to the barn of well-known Thoroughbred horse trainer Graham Motion, who trained Animal Kingdom, winner of the 2011 Kentucky Derby and 2013 Dubai World Cup. Carrying the Hickory Tree colors, Rebellion ran up a three-race winning streak on the turf in North America at 4 years of age, culminating in a victory in the Steinlen S. at Belmont Park. The training team then switched Rebellion (GB) to the polytrack, where he ran second by a half-length in Keeneland's Grade 3 Phoenix S. Racing almost exclusively on the main track the following year, Rebellion (GB) captured Keeneland's $400,000 Commonwealth S., a Grade 2 event over 7 furlongs, in 1:21.17, just 1/5 off the track record, then headed west to score in the Grade 3 Ack Ack H. at Hollywood Park, and finish a fast-closing second, beaten a half-length, against a stellar field in the $1,000,000 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita Park. Rebellion (GB) won on dirt and turf from 5-1/2 to 7-1/2 furlongs, making 26 starts from ages 2 to 5, and defeated six Grade 1 winners and 22 graded stakes winners while competing at 15 different racetracks.
“Rebellion (GB) was a strong competitor with an amazing burst of speed. A very genuine and sound horse, he never ran a bad race and tried hard every time,” noted H. Graham Motion, trainer and owner of Herringswell Stables.
Rebellion (GB) originally stood at Norse Ridge Farm in Canada for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 breeding seasons and has produced 42 foals to date. His first crop of 2010 offspring are running with success on a variety of track surfaces in Canada and the United States. Ranked #2 in the Mid Atlantic among second-crop sires, Rebellion (GB) has begun his career with distinction, with 10 winners of 20 races, including 1 stakes win, from just 16 runners to date.
“Rebellion (GB) is the most genuine horse an owner could ever ask for. He won at five different racetracks in Europe and North America, on turf and on polytrack, retired completely sound, and always showed tremendous heart and determination,” said Jim Treptow, owner of Hickory Tree Farm and Hickory Tree Racing. “You can’t find a more qualified stallion prospect with his performance and his pedigree. Rebellion descends from the brilliant Danehill line and he has already shown to pass on his heart and durability to his offspring.”
Rebellion (GB) will stand for $3,500 in the 2015 breeding season. For more information, contact Cheris Treptow at (571) 442-7728, or visit hickorytreefarm.com
